VALMALENCO, Italy (March 24) – Junior national champion Ali Kariotis (Tiburon, CA) took the highest dual moguls honor Saturday when she stood atop the podium at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships. Kariotis, 16, capped off a record week of five American medals in moguls and aerials - the most successful ever for the USA - as the Junior Worlds came to a close in Italy.
Squaw Valley Freestyle's Ali Kariotis (Tiburon, CA) won the FIS Junior World duals moguls.
Kariotis' win was a record fifth moguls or aerials medal for the USA at Junior Worlds.
USA medalists included Kiley McKinnon (Madison, CT) bronze aerials, Jonathan Lillis (Rochester, NY) silver aerials, Bradley Wilson (Butte, MT) gold moguls, Anna Park (Davis, CA) silver moguls and Kariotis' gold.
Troy Murphy (Bethel, ME) just missed the medals, finishing fifth.
Kariotis recently finished second in the season long NorAm Cup series.
QUOTES Ali Kariotis I was really frustrated after yesterday, which really inspired me to do better today. I got my nerves out yesterday and was feeling a lot more confident today. I just focused on each individual run.
It means a lot. It was one of my goals for the season and after last year's experience at Junior Worlds I knew I had the ability to win it.
