FOX RIVER GROVE, IL (Sept. 30) – Peter Frenette (Saranac Lake, NY) and Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) will be going for title sweeps in the U.S. Ski Jumping Championships Saturday on the Norge Ski Club's K70 hill in Fox River Grove, IL. Frenette and Jerome each took gold in the large hill competition held in July on the Olympic jump in Park City, UT. Also on the schedule Saturday is the U.S. Nordic Combined Championships.
Frenette, the youngest Olympian in 2010, brings in a streak of three titles. Jerome will be going for her eighth crown. Both were easy winners in Park City in July.
The Olympic-medal-winning U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team will be led by Olympic champion Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY) as well as silver medalists Todd Lodwick and Johnny Spillane (Steamboat Springs, CO). Last year's titlist, Brett Camerota (Park City, UT), has retired.
It's the fourth year the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has held its U.S. Championships in the summertime. It's the first time in recent history the event has been held at the Norge Ski Club, which is one of the oldest clubs in America. The club is one of the oldest in America and last held the event in the 1960s.
Jumping begins at noon Saturday on the K70 jump. The roller ski portion of the U.S. Nordic Combined Championships begins at 4 p.m.
